Yamatsuri Town (Yamatsuri Town) is a town located on Naka-dori in Fukushima Prefecture and belongs to Higashishirakawa-gun.
There is Mount Yamatsuri almost at the center of the town, and the Kuji River flows north-south while circling Mount Yamatsuri. Mount Yamizo at the western end is a mountain on the border with Ibaraki Prefecture in the south and Tochigi Prefecture in the west, and only the Myoga River basin on the east side belongs to Yamatsuri Town. The east of the town is the Abukuma Mountains, and the east and west of the town tend to be mountainous, and the JR Suigun Line and National Route 118 run along the Kuji River.
It is an open village along the Kuji River and its tributaries, and fields and villages spread along the road. There are small shops scattered around Higashidate Station.
In 2002, a “declaration not to merge” was issued due to concerns that small-scale towns and villages would be cut down due to the “Heisei merger” led by the Japanese government, and it became a hot topic. Currently, in order to establish independent finance, administrative reforms are being carried out to the extent that they are attracting attention from local governments all over the country.
It is administratively included in Fukushima Prefecture, but it has a close relationship with the northwestern part of Ibaraki Prefecture (Daigo Town, Hitachiota City, Mito City, etc.) which is the middle and lower reaches of the Kuji River. Even in the coastal area beyond the Abukuma Mountains, it is 70 km away to Nakoso (Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture) via National Route 289, but it is only 45 km away from Hitachi City in Ibaraki Prefecture via Ibaraki Prefectural Road 36.
