Yonago (Yonagoshi) is a city located in the western part of Tottori Prefecture.

The central city of the Yonago metropolitan area with an urban population of approximately 230,000 people. Also, as an economic region spanning a wide area, the Nakaumi, Lake Shinji, and Oyama areas are formed in the Kumohaku region along with the neighboring Matsue, Izumo, and Yasugi metropolitan areas.
It developed as a commercial city from the early Edo period. Since it is located in the center of both Sanin prefectures, it is not a prefectural capital, but it is a base city with Tottori University Medical School/Hospital and Sanin Broadcasting (TV and radio combined station).
On the railway, it is the junction of the JR Sanin Main Line and Sakai Line/Hakubi Line, and the JR Yonago branch office is located, and on the road, National Route 9, 180, 181, and 431 and the Sanin Expressway/Yonago Expressway are connected to Okayama/Tottori/Sakaiminato/Matsue, and from Yonago Airport and Sakaiminato, it is also connected to Tokyo (Haneda), Shanghai (Shanghai Pudong) in China, Hong Kong, and the Oki Islands, making it the number one transportation hub in Sanin.
Kaike Onsen in the city is famous as the birthplace of triathlon in Japan.
